Don’t use 4 AWG Cables on a BESTEK 2000 Watt Inverter

We came across something strange the other day while cruising the ole inter-webs that bothered us. We don’t even sell BESTEK 2000 watt inverters, but thought we should bring some attention to something that we are sure is causing people issues. The BESTEK 2000 Watt DC to AC power inverter seems to be a pretty popular inverter choice on Amazon, that is not strange in itself as there seems to be more and more Chinese made inverters popping up on Amazon every single day. It is a pretty run of the mill 2000 watt DC to AC modified sine wave unit with some of the typical bells and whistles. What we found disturbing is that the #1 accessory that people are purchasing along with this 2000 watt inverter is the Cobra CPI-A4000BC which is a 4 AWG Power Inverter Cable Kit, which Cobra themselves state is HEAVY DUTY. This cable kit, while nice, is certainly not HEAVY DUTY. The maximum watt inverter anyone should be using this kit on is 1500 watts….PERIOD. It alarms us that so many people out there are using these cables on this inverter!

DO NOT use inferior cables such as 4 AWG on a BESTEK 2K power inverter as you will be robbing yourself from the maximum power that the inverter can produce. You are simple wasting your money. If that wasn’t bad enough, using undersized cables will result in the cables getting warm to very hot depending on the load and can potentially melt or catch fire! Some may say “That’s OK, I will not use my BESTEK inverter to it’s full capacity, so my undersized four AWG cables are fine”. Don’t take this chance because we all know what can and will happen. One day someone or perhaps yourself will “accidentally” plug in a device that is rated for more than 1500 watts (the absolute limit of most 4 AWG cables) and then the fun will start. Don’t even ask us why they include a cig lighter plug with this unit…that’s a whole ‘nother story!
